Applying for college when you feel lost

A low-pressure way to turn one giant decision into a few manageable next steps.

Keep this in mindYou do not need a perfect five-year plan. You only need enough information for the next choice.

If this feels bigger than it should, that does not mean you are doing it wrong. Most hard things become more manageable when you stop trying to solve every part at once.

A simple plan

  1. Write down three things you want from life after high school—not school names, just experiences.
  2. Choose one person who can explain the application process without making the decision for you.
  3. Pick one tiny task for today: make a school list, open an application, or find one deadline.

Make the next step smaller

Choose the easiest action on this page and give it ten minutes. You can stop, adjust, or ask someone to join you after that. Small progress still counts, especially on a hard day.

Want to talk it through with a real person before you decide what to do?
